The Machine Shop Engineering Intern assists the Machine Shop team in developing work instructions, tooling standards, and process improvements for the kick press cell. This role supports quality-driven manufacturing systems for new and existing products while gaining hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering and machine shop operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works alongside the kick press operator to observe current processes and identify improvement opportunities
  • Develops and writes new work instructions for kick press operations
  • Identifies tooling needed for kick press jobs and ensures each tool has an assigned ABT number
  • Assists in improving the layout and flow of the kick press cell
  • Assists in scheduling and ordering tooling and fixturing for Machine Shop jobs
  • Works alongside Manufacturing Engineers to help develop production fixtures
  • Assists in investigating continuous improvement opportunities that reduce labor and costs
  • Assists in troubleshooting internal production issues under supervision
  • Provides support to production teams on technical questions as directed
  • Participates in evaluating new systems and equipment that could reduce costs, labor, and time
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by Manager

Job Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a BS in Engineering or related field (Junior or Senior standing preferred)
  • Interest in manufacturing engineering and machine shop processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Good computer skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office and SolidWorks preferred
  • Exposure to Lean manufacturing concepts is a plus
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
