The Electrical Design Engineer Manager leads the US Design Engineering and Configurations team at the Grand Rapids, MI and Arizona facilities. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Provide leadership and ongoing coaching to the Engineering team dedicated to supporting production.

·         Establish objectives, schedules and priorities for Design Engineering activities.

·         Plan and coordinate required resources for the Design Engineering teams in Michigan and Arizona.

·         Leads multiple engineering projects covering the company’s range of technology and product areas.

·         Leads the Design and development of complete devices that integrate mechanical, electrical/electronic components

·         Designs schematics, analysis, and simulation of electronic circuits

·         Performs reliability, maintainability, environmental & safety analysis (ex. MTBF, FMEA)

·         Creates designs that are aligned with assembly and manufacturing capabilities; perform DFT & DFM reviews

·         Leads the Design team to work with internal and external vendors and consultants to create and test functional prototypes of new devices, component changes, and design improvements

·         Performs product verification and validations according to the defined design inputs and product specifications

·         Develops multi-level Bill-of-Materials

·         Provides guidance to internal and external sources for PCB layout

·         Creates solid models and drawings for assembly, components and tooling in SolidWorks

·         Performs Finite Element Analysis on high stress components

·         Works with Manufacturing Engineering to develop assembly, process control and quality workmanship procedures

·         Stays abreast of any new technologies, including design software, rules, design practices etc.

·         Interfaces with customer on design and test related issues when applicable

·         Any other task assigned by supervisor

·         Travels to other ABT divisions or Customers as required

Job Requirements

·         BS in Engineering. Advanced degree preferred.  

·         Minimum 8 years Engineering experience

·         Minimum 5 years leadership experience

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills

·         Excellent organizational and problem solving skills

·         Ability to interact well and coach team members

·         Excellent computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

·         Experience with Lean manufacturing

·         Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
