The Electrical Wire Harness Design Engineer is responsible for product design, improvements, documentation, and analysis as well as providing technical expertise and knowledge in support of all engineering projects.  The Electrical Wire Harness Design Engineer will work collaboratively with other members of the Engineering team to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop wire harnesses that meet system requirements.
  • Interact with Product Management, Marketing, and Customers to fully understand product requirements and develop cost effective and innovative solutions
  • Create models and drawings for routing, assembly, components, and schematics in SolidWorks
  • Perform calculations and analysis for the selection of harness components such as connectors, wire, over-braid, over molding (injection & cold pour) , sleeving, labels, and routing hardware
  • Create designs that are aligned with assembly and manufacturing capabilities, processes, and testing.  Perform DFx reviews as required.
  • Perform product verification and validations according to the defined design inputs and product specifications
  • Develop multi-level Bill-of-Materials
  • Write reports, specifications, correspondence, and procedures
  • Ensure products comply with and are certified to applicable specifications and regulatory standards
  • Stay abreast of any new technologies, including design software, rules, design practices etc.
  • Work closely with internal and external customers to define, meet or exceed design parameters during the design phase
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Design Engineering Lead

Job Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • 2+ years of Engineering experience, preferred
  • Ability to interpret and draw wiring diagrams, schematics, and ICD documents
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software (SolidWorks preferred) and Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with common harness assembly techniques such as crimping, stripping, soldering, twisting, over molding and over braiding
  • Expertise with tools such as FMEA, FEA, DFM, and statistical techniques
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff at all levels in the organization
  • Understanding of commodities including: cable harnesses, CNC milling/lathe, PCBA, box-builds, and electronic components
  • Excellent problem solving, data analysis, deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
