 The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for new product design, product improvements, electronic design, documentation, reliability analysis as well as providing technical expertise and product knowledge using a variety of engineering disciplines.  This position will be responsible for supporting component and material research as it relates to obsolescence management. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and develop complete devices that integrate mechanical, electrical/electronic components
  • Interact with  internal team and customers to fully understand product requirements and develop cost effective and innovative solutions
  • Facilitate schematic design, PCB layout, assembly drawing creation, and Bill of Materials development
  • Perform electrical analysis & simulation, reliability, maintainability, environmental & safety analysis (ex. MTBF, FMEA)
  • Create designs that are aligned with assembly and manufacturing capabilities, processes, and test.  Perform DFx reviews.
  • Work with internal and external vendors and consultants to create and test functional prototypes of new devices, component changes, and design improvements
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering to develop assembly, process control and quality workmanship procedures
  • Perform product verification and validations according to the defined design inputs and product specifications
  • Write reports, specifications, correspondence, and procedures
  • Ensure products comply with and are certified to applicable specifications and regulatory standards
  • Resolve product issues associated with existing designs and new designs under test and properly document results
  • Stay abreast of any new technologies, including design software, rules, design practices etc.
  • Develop and perform functional testing and troubleshooting of electronic products
  • Work closely with internal and external customers to define, meet or exceed design parameters during the design phase
  • Investigate and analyze opportunities to reduce material costs Provide engineering support to customers to implement replacements for obsolete components and materials
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Design Engineering Manager

Job Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years of Electrical Design Engineering experience, preferred
  • Proficient in software tools including SolidWorks, Cadence, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Expertise with tools such as FMEA, FEA, DFM, DFT and statistical techniques
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff at all levels in the organization
  • Understanding of commodities including: cable harnesses, PCBA, box-builds, and electronic components
  • Excellent problem solving, data analysis, deductive reasoning and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
